Ready for a challenge?
Hike the iconic Penon de Ifach in Calpe—Costa Blanca’s towering limestone rock rising 332 meters above the sea. A breathtaking climb with unforgettable views awaits!

Rising 332 meters above the Mediterranean, Penon de Ifach is one of the most iconic natural landmarks on the Costa Blanca. Located in the coastal town of Calpe, this striking limestone rock formation offers a dramatic blend of sea and mountain views, attracting hikers, climbers, and nature lovers from around the world.
The trail to the summit is about 5 km round trip and ranges from moderate to challenging. The first stretch is a paved path suitable for most visitors, but after passing through a tunnel carved into the rock, the trail becomes more rugged and steep. Chains are installed to aid in the ascent, and careful footing is essential. At the top, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline—and on clear days, even the island of Ibiza can be seen in the distance.
Important Update: Advance Online Reservation Required
Due to environmental protection regulations and limited daily capacity (300 people), visitors must book a free permit online before arriving. Spots can fill up quickly, especially in high season, so plan ahead to secure your entry.
Beyond its dramatic vistas, Peñón de Ifach is a natural reserve rich in biodiversity. Over 300 animal species call the rock home, and birdwatchers will enjoy sightings of gulls, kestrels, and peregrine falcons. Rare Mediterranean plant life also thrives on the cliffs and rocky paths.
